How badly do you want to succeed?
Being an entrepreneur can look so glamorous! You get to make all the decisions for the company, you get all the glory of closing a big deal or you get the thrill of expanding the business. On the flip side, you have to make all the decisions for your company, if a big deal falls through or you expand too quickly there is no one to blame but you. Being an entrepreneur can be a completely liberating but also stressful experience. The trick is to never lose sight of why you started a company and why you continue with it everyday. Don't let the struggle of hard days knock you off your path.
People have two responses to stress... Fight or flight. Fighting through hard times is a great way to deal with stress. Get your nose to the pavement and get some results. Don't give up! Flight in the face of stress is not as ideal of a response. Turning your back on stressful situations within your company is not usually going to make them any better. In fact, ignoring a problem usually allows it to snowball into a much bigger issue.

When you want to succeed
What does success mean to you? Is it a specific number of clients, employees, offices, revenue? You will never feel like success is attainable if you don't know what success means to you. Really take a close look at where you want your business to go. Don't be afraid to aim big, but also don't be ashamed if your goals are humble and small. Not everyone needs to be a big time tycoon and that's ok!

As bad as you want to breathe
Once you've established what your success means to you it's time to do what it takes to get there. It won't be easy, but it will be worth the feeling of satisfaction. Think back to when you were a kid. Was there a special toy you wanted for Christmas? You wanted it so bad you would do absolutely anything to get it. That is the kind of yearn filled passion you need to bring to the business table. You have to want it as bad as you want to breathe. Use it like a life force that drives you.
Then you will be successful
Once you get there it's important to do two things:
1. Give yourself a pat in the back, maybe a nice vacation. You worked hard and persevered for this success. Let yourself be a little bit proud.
2. Once you've given yourself the proper acalades refocus and redefine success. Maybe you have a new goal in mind or maybe you're ready to step down. Find out more about succession planning here.
Do you have any things in life you wanted so badly you could taste it? Have you ever wanted to succeed (whatever that means to you) as bad as you wanted to breathe? Were you successful?
