Social Media Marketing Revealed - Week 3
Last week we took a look at Facebook for social media marketing. This week we are going to investigate Twitter as part of a company's social media marketing campaign.
While doing research for this post I was faced with the dilema of writing about Twitter business accounts or personal accounts used to promote entreprenuerships and small businesses. I decided that because this blog caters to the entreprenuer and small business owner I would steer away from the corporate Twitter account and stick with the down and dirty daily operations of how to promote your business on Twitter.
Make your Twitter Profile Inviting
Typically if someone wants to follow you on Twitter they will search out your brand until they find your company profile. When they come across your profile you want it to be something that catches their eye and pulls them into following you. This is your first contact with potential followers and you want a profile that is inviting and not quickly forgotten.
Many company profiles will post a collage as their cover photo. This way they can show a potential follower many sides of their brand. Think about including photos of staff having fun, your company's office space, products, etc. New followers love to see the real you on your profile.
Use Visual Content to Increase Traffic
The majority of information transmitted through the brain is visual. Make sure you are a inserting videos and photos with your tweets.
A study by Buffer found that Tweets with images have 150% more interaction. So if you want your followers to retweet or favourite your content adding a picture or video will go a long way in achieving that.
Use Hashtags
Hashtags can be used to generate discussion about a topic. For example, Audi included the hashtag #ProgressIs in a Super Bowl ad and subsiquently the company took over Twitter discussions about progress for the month. If your company is able to generate discussion and link it to a hashtag other people are more likely to join the discussion espcially if like Audi, you decide to adopt an open-ended hashtag that encourages people to add their own thoughts.
Hashtags can also be used for events. Alberta Gymfest, for example, always uses #abgymfest with the year of the event attached to it. This helps others find discussions, pictures, videos, etc about the event and can consequently mean more retweets and favourites.
Keep it Simple Sweetheart
Twitter is a microblogging site. Tweets are meant to be short and sweet, but frequent. Don't try to jam too much information into one tweet. You will do better to have shorter, punchier tweets that come up often on followers' feeds. A message that is too long can become convaluted. Tweet phrases that catch a followers eye and makes them want to explore deeper.
Collect and Share
Twitter is very fast moving and requires constant tweets and updates on your part in order to stay relivant. The doesn't mean you need to write a massive article 3 times a day to stay engaged with your followers though. Collect articles, websites, picture, videos, links, etc and share them on your Twitter account. This keeps your feed relivant and prominent but doesn't demand all of your time writing.
